2017 New Paradigms in Obesity Management

OPTIMIZING MULTIDISCIPLINARY TREATMENT APPROACHES IN AN EVOLVING HEALTHCARE SETTING


Presented by Legacy Health and OHSU. This live CME activity presents a multidisciplinary discussion of obesity. Topics will include managing obesity in primary care; metabolically normal and abnormal obesity; community resources and partnerships for managing obesity; the diabetes Prevention Program; motivational interviewing; and pharmacotherapy for obesity and bariatric surgery: patient selection and post-op management. Target audience for this activity is primary care physicians, nurse practitioners and others who care for patients with obesity.

Desired outcomes
1. Identify patients who have the greatest need to achieve weight loss
2. Explain how to implement a viable medical group visit for weight
loss
3. Recognize post-operative complications likely to be seen by
primary care providers
4. Describe community prevention efforts and partnerships in Oregon
addressing obesity and associated risk factors
5. Explain the principles of the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP)
6. Translate dietary recommendations into real world practice
7. Demonstrate at least two methods to elicit change talk
